So you want to get 200,000 or 300,000 miles from your car? No
problem! Follow this easy to understand maintenance schedule
and helpful hints. It has worked for our customers since 1978!
Every 3 months or 3,000 miles:
- Change engine oil and filter.
- Check all fluids (under hood and vehicle)
- Inspect all belts and hoses
- Inspect CV Boots *
Every 12 months or 15,000 miles:
- Check, clean, and adjust all brakes
- Rotate tires
- Check wheel alignment
- Inspect all suspension components
- Inspect all drivetrain components
- Inspect exhaust system
- Inspect all belts and hoses
- Adjust clutch freeplay *
- Service air conditioning (if needed)
- Lubricate all hinges
- Perform State inspection
Every 24 months or 30,000 miles:
- Engine Tuneup (must replace spark plugs, air filter, and fuel
filter)
- Change transmission fluid (also change filter and gasket if
automatic)
- Change differential(s) fluid *
- Change transfer case fluid *
- Repack wheel bearings *
- Flush brake fluid
- Flush clutch fluid *
- Flush & pressure test cooling system
Every 48 months or 60,000 miles: or Every 60
months or 90,000 miles:
(check manufacturers recommendation)
- Replace timing belt(s) *
- Replace water pump if located behind timing belt cover *
- Replace belt tensioner & idler pulleys every other timing
belt change
* if applicable
Helpful Hints:
- Warm up vehicle for at least 1 minute before driving
- Accelerate gently for first 5 minutes of driving
- Cool down vehicle for at least 1 minute after driving if diesel
or turbo
- Use air conditioner 5 minutes weekly - even if winter (it helps
defrost)
- Set emergency brake before putting in park. Put in gear before
releasing brake
- Shift into reverse before first if "grinding" occurs
when engaging first gear
- Wash vehicle at least every 2 weeks, preferably weekly
- Wax vehicle and use vinyl & leather conditioner every 3
months
- Clean carpets & upholstery as needed
